Monday Mindset: Personal Growth Begins With Awareness

Have you ever wondered how your brain and mind work? While we’re not brain scientists, Stephanie and I delve into some fascinating brain science in this week’s podcast. We explore brainwaves, the subconscious, and the conscious mind, and discuss how these concepts relate to the cycle of socialization we covered last week.

We’re often amazed at the complexity of our brains and how little we think about it. Did you know that 90% of our thoughts, behaviors, habits, and routines are guided by the subconscious mind? This allows us to live full lives and perform even mundane tasks without having to consciously direct ourselves.
Interestingly, our most basic everyday thoughts also reside in that 90% of our subconscious. According to Dr. Joe Dispenza, a New York Times best-selling author and researcher, the average person thinks 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts each day. These thoughts come and go throughout the day, largely unbidden. Dr. Dispenza notes, “90% of your thoughts are the same thoughts as the day before, and 90% of your thoughts are the same thoughts as the day before that” (from Rewired, Season 1, Episode 2: “What is Change”).
Our early experiences shape these subconscious thought patterns and influence our habits and behaviors, often in ways we don’t consciously recognize. Our preferences, values, and even gut reactions are frequently rooted in these early thought patterns shaped by socialization. Understanding these connections can help us make more conscious choices and align our lives with our true desires.
