Shifting Mindsets: Introducing the Fields of Transformation theory

You know Stephanie and me primarily through our coaching services here at WEBB Squared.

Behind the scenes, when we are not working with you one-on-one to develop strategies for your business success, we are dedicated and working toward a larger vision redressing the racial wealth gap and fostering a local economy that is just, fair, and free from race-constructed barriers.

This is a lofty goal, and we’re fully committed. We are deeply involved within the larger community building networks and shifting mindsets of individuals and institutions to support our mission ensuring everyone has access to the resources, skill sets, and opportunities to build sustainable wealth and well-being.

All of our work is about shifting mindsets.  Through our coaching and our work in the larger community, Stephanie and I have become aware that we are operating through three interconnected mindset fields: personal mindset, interpersonal mindset, and systemic mindsets.

#1 – Personal Mindset work

As we guide our entrepreneurs through creating your business plans and tackling your marketing strategies, we also encourage you to trust us with your self narrative and personal mindsets. What does your inner critic say to you?  What anxieties are you grappling with?  Where do you feel imposter syndrome?

Some of the benefits of fortifying your personal mindsets is to help you build greater discipline, to problem solve without anxiety or panic, and to develop confidence  to tackle challenges head on with clarity, to problem solve without anxiety or panic.  By uncovering these personal mindsets, we can develop individual strategies that can help you transform the energy you bring into your business development.

Stephanie and I work as a team, and we are continuously challenging our own mindsets. We believe in transformation, and we walk that walk, talk that talk, alongside you.  We understand our anxieties, battle our own inner critics, and face moments of imposter syndrome  – and as we do so, we develop strategies we need to push through – and we bring these strategies to push through and bring our best to you so we can find the best in you.

# 2 – Interpersonal Mindset

When we’re not engaged in one-on-one sessions with you, we’re deeply involved in our community, forging partnerships and relationships aimed at transforming how our county supports BIPOC businesses.   Stephanie plays an active role on the boards of the local EDC organization, meets with county commissioners, networks on behalf of WEBB Squared with the Chatham Chamber of Commerce, and more.

Building these relationships requires significant time, effort, trust, and patience.  Stephanie often reminds me, “We’re not running a race, we’re running a marathon.” We learn to pace ourselves, take deliberate steps, and prepare ourselves for the long haul.

As we engage in this work, we’re mindful of our position within the community and how it aligns with the work, the values, and missions of our various community partners and institutions.  This relational work is where we are engaged in shifting interpersonal mindsets.  We believe that the skills and strategies we develop in these community interactions can benefit you directly.

As a businessperson and entrepreneur, you’ll also need to cultivate relationships and trust with your clients, potential clients, and the broader community. Being mindful not only of your own mindset but also of the mindsets of those in your network is crucial. This awareness will guide your marketing strategies, help you build trust, and foster goodwill to cultivate lasting relationships with your clients.

#3 – Systemic Mindsets

Stephanie and I co-founded WEBB Squared a little over 4 years ago with a mission to address the racial wealth gap. The personal and interpersonal mindset work we engage in serves as groundwork toward affecting systemic change. Our goal is to remove barriers that hinder BIPOC entrepreneurs from building successful businesses and creating generational wealth to support their communities and families for years to come.

We intimately understand the challenges of navigating a system that erects barriers to success, much like you do. It’s the reason WEBB exists—to dismantle these barriers and pave the way for equitable opportunities. The systemic challenges we confront on a mindset level significantly impact our ability to effect change in these areas. These domains are interconnected and mutually influential, making our mission at WEBB complex and sometimes daunting. Nevertheless, WEBB remains steadfast in our commitment. We ask for your continued trust as we persist in shifting mindsets and effecting transformative change across all these fronts.
